Well, the dark one, I was told it’s like a 515 but never having seen one in real life…
Anyway I thought the nib was a later replacement but I’ve seen a few pop out for auction so I guess it was meant like that.
Yes, that’s the same pen. The main difference between this pen and a 515 is that the latter has a lever box, and if I remember right, a third ring. The nib does look a little out of place at first, but it grows on you, that big, purposeful nib on a modest pen 🙂
I especially like your Conway Stewart, which I take to be a 479. Great understated, elegant pen with beautiful chasing.
Hi, I am interested in the history of the Watermans Keyhole Ideal nib, and why they keep turning up on 1940s post war pens. Most are lovely flexible nibs and are great writers. So many are on 1940s pens, I am thinking Watermans must have used up old stock on the early 515s etc. or are they all replaced nibs, I doubt that though. T
Hi Tristam,
I like your email address! I don’t really have any information about the Keyhole nibs. I’ve had quite a few and I agree that they are lovely nibs.
I have a similar one, and I bet it’s on plain black/blue 515 🙂
It’s one of the best nibs I own.
The pen this nib came on is a no-number black forties Waterman, a little shorter than a 515, with two cap rings. No lever box.
It’s a really great nib!
