What we have lost. To paraphrase Prince Charles: if modern architecture is so good, why do so many of us hate it?
It truly is a gorgeous building, so much nicer than today’s stacked boxes.
I once had an acquaintance comment on a vintage pen of mine, not knowing it was vintage. He asked where he could buy one. I replied, “Well, you’ll need to get a time machine and go back to 1937….” Laughter followed, of course.
These photos, and others like it, make one really, really wish to step into the image and visit that shop.
(But that would be all. Wouldn’t wish to visit a dentist back then, nor get seriously ill.)
