My Assistant

I lost my assistant today. She was 14 and had been with us for eleven years. She was a typical tortie, independent, grumpy, demanding and affectionate. She was a cat with a life of her own.

    1. Thank you, Penny. It all happened rather quickly, which was a good thing, really. She was a big part of our lives – a huge personality – and it will take some time to adjust to her absence.
      Best Regards,
      Deb

  1. Really Sorry to hear that. Went through that, several year ago, and I know how you must feel….These wee furry beasties, nestle in our hearts, purring contently and then leave, creating a void…

    1. Thank you, Bob. Smartie was an odd cat. She never purred and would not even consider sitting on anyone’s lap. When she returned from her adventures outside she told us all about them and would deign to sit with us if we didn’t bother her too much. She was her own cat.

  2. So sorry to hear. I never fully appreciated the grief of losing a pet until last week when Winston, my cockatiel and companion for the past 25 years went to his rest. I catch myself looking over to speak to him or check on his food several time a day, momentarily forgetting that he’s not there. Now I understand. Hard to accept, but it is the way of all things. Remember to joy and be thankful for the time you shared.

  3. My sincerest condolences to you and Gordon. Losing a family member is especially hard as the holidays approach. I am sure her little spirit will be padding around the house and swatting away an occasional fountain pen part while you both aren’t looking. And rest assured, Ms. Smartie will be patiently waiting at the Rainbow Bridge to be finally reunited with family.

Take care of yourselves and please stay Safe and Healthy.

  4. So sorry for the loss of Smartie. Our two boys, Razz and Jazz, help brighten our days during this pandemic!
Best wishes, thinking of your pain,
    Don P.

  5. I know that feeling so very well, and just can’t bring myself to like this post. We have seven assistants at the moment, including one lodger who belongs to our daughter, and will be with us until January next year. Each one is a member of the family, and has been given a treat and a lot of fuss in honor of that friend of 14 years. Keep well, our thoughts are with you.
