It’s a little frustrating when your main interest is fountain pens and you’re finding it painful to write. This has happened to me gradually over the years and recently it has become rather less gradual.
CCBarton recommended hot wax for pain relief and that works well. Someone else recommended IMAK arthritis gloves. I tried a pair and they’re really good. They gently compress your hands and somehow that reduces the pain and allows you to work. I use them for writing, typing and pen fixing. For other sufferers out there, they’re well worth a try.
My hands in these gloves reminded me of something, though. For a while I couldn’t think what it was, then it came to me. I’m Fagin! Ron Moody as Fagin in Oliver!

But that’s OK. I don’t mind being Fagin if it’s a bit less painful.

Thanks for posting about the IMAK gloves. I’d never heard of them, but will now give them a try. My hands are aching a bit as I write this. And yes, you do look very Fagan-ish in them. I’m wondering if wearing them inspires you to get up a Cockney accent with your assistant?

I do sometimes slide from my native Philadelphia (near enough) to East London in the space of a few syllables. It does confuse her a little but then she reflects on the fact that human utterances are just sounds, unlike catspeak which is a language.
…yes. And if we could only crack the code on that one!

Oh of course you’re right…what was I thinking?! Decoding cats could either be terrifying or result in them being even more impossibly adorable – and then where would we be? Better they remain an enigma.

Thank you for this post. Normally I get arthritis on my knee and feet but when I do manual work like polishing fountain pens I really struggle with pain.
